Who the IronWolf Pro 8 TB is for
Go for it if you're building something bigger than a 4-bay box. It also earns its keep on a busy pool where scrubs and rebuilds never let up, because the 550 TB a year workload rating is there for exactly that. You also get five years' warranty, two more than the cheapest NAS lines. It's CMR, which is what you want anywhere near a RAID or ZFS rebuild.
Watch out for
Being 7,200 rpm, it's in the noisier, warmer class of drive, and you'll want it somewhere you don't sit.
No Backblaze failure rate for this one. They don't run enough of them, if any, for a figure worth quoting. Seagate's datasheet puts it at 28 dB idle and 30 dB seeking. Power draw is 7.8 W idle and 10.1 W working on Seagate's figures, or 68 kWh a year if it spends the whole year idling. Put four in RAID 5 and you'll have 24 TB to fill (Windows will call it 21.8 TB).
