Who the IronWolf Pro 4 TB is for
It earns the extra once you're filling a big box or hammering the array with Plex and backups around the clock, as the 550 TB a year rating leaves plenty of headroom. You also get five years' warranty, two more than the cheapest NAS lines. It's CMR, which is what you want anywhere near a RAID or ZFS rebuild.
Watch out for
At 7,200 rpm it's from the louder, warmer class. Fine in a cupboard, less fun on a desk.
There's no Backblaze data worth quoting here. Seagate's datasheet puts it at 28 dB idle and 30 dB seeking. Power draw is 5.5 W idle and 8.7 W working on Seagate's figures, or 48 kWh a year if it spends the whole year idling. Put four in RAID 5 and you'll have 12 TB to fill (Windows will call it 10.9 TB).
