Who the IronWolf Pro 28 TB is for
This is the one to look at once you're past eight bays or the array's busy all day, because Seagate rates it for 550 TB a year and doesn't care how big the box is. You also get five years' warranty, two more than the cheapest NAS lines. It's CMR, which is what you want anywhere near a RAID or ZFS rebuild.
Watch out for
It's a 7,200 rpm drive and you'll hear it working.
No Backblaze failure rate for this one. They don't run enough of them, if any, for a figure worth quoting. Seagate's datasheet puts it at 28 dB idle and 32 dB seeking. Power draw is 6.8 W idle and 8.3 W working on Seagate's figures, or 60 kWh a year if it spends the whole year idling. Four of them in SHR or RAID 5 give 84 TB usable, or 76.4 TB once Windows has done its binary maths on it.
