Should you buy the BarraCuda 1 TB?

Fine as the data drive in a desktop, or a backup copy that sits on a shelf. Either way that's light work for a 55 TB a year rating.

Watch out for

Seagate doesn't rate it for NAS use at all, which rules it out for an array as far as we're concerned. It's a 7,200 rpm drive and you'll hear it working. SMR as well, which is the other reason to keep it out of an array.

No Backblaze failure rate for this one. They don't run enough of them, if any, for a figure worth quoting. Power draw is 3.9 W idle and 5.1 W working on Seagate's figures, or 34 kWh a year if it spends the whole year idling.
