Should you buy the BarraCuda 2 TB?

As a second drive in a PC, or a backup you plug in once a week, it does what you need.

Watch out for

It isn't a NAS drive, and Seagate gives it no NAS bay rating. Building an array? Get a NAS or data-centre line, which comes with the rating. It's a 7,200 rpm drive and you'll hear it working. And the recording's SMR, another reason it stays out of arrays.

No Backblaze failure rate for this one. They don't run enough of them, if any, for a figure worth quoting. Seagate lists 3.9 W at idle and 5.1 W working, which comes to 34 kWh a year for a drive that idles around the clock.
