Should you buy the WD Blue 2 TB?

A PC tower suits it, or a dock for backups.

Watch out for

WD doesn't rate it for NAS use at all, which rules it out for an array as far as we're concerned. It's a 7,200 rpm drive and you'll hear it working. SMR as well, which is the other reason to keep it out of an array.

There's no Backblaze data worth quoting here. WD's datasheet puts it at 25 dB idle and 27 dB seeking. Power draw is 3.7 W idle and 5.6 W working on WD's figures, or 32 kWh a year if it spends the whole year idling.
