Should you buy the WD Blue 10 TB?

As a second drive in a PC, or a backup you plug in once a week, it does what you need.

Watch out for

WD doesn't rate it for NAS use at all, which rules it out for an array as far as we're concerned. It's a 7,200 rpm drive and you'll hear it working.

Backblaze doesn't run enough of these for a failure rate we'd publish. On paper it makes 34 dB at idle and 39 dB seeking. WD lists 6.1 W at idle and 8.8 W working, which comes to 53 kWh a year for a drive that idles around the clock.
