Who the IronWolf 6 TB is for
If the NAS lives in the lounge or a bedroom, this is the kind of drive you want, because 5,400 rpm is the slower and quieter class and a gigabit network runs out of puff long before the drive does. CMR, thankfully. SMR and parity rebuilds don't get on.
Watch out for
If there's any chance you'll move to a bigger box later, a pro line saves buying drives twice. Warranty's three years and the workload rating is 180 TB a year. At 6 TB that's 30 full passes of the drive a year, and a monthly scrub uses twelve of them before you've written anything.
No Backblaze failure rate for this one. They don't run enough of them, if any, for a figure worth quoting. Seagate's datasheet puts it at 25 dB idle and 26 dB seeking. Power draw is 4 W idle and 5.3 W working on Seagate's figures, or 35 kWh a year if it spends the whole year idling. A 4-bay box full of these gives 18 TB after one drive's worth of parity.
