Is the WD Ultrastar DC HC310 6 TB right for you? Pick it for raw capacity in a box that lives out of earshot, because 7,200 rpm enterprise drives are built to run flat out all day, every day. You also get five years' warranty, two more than the cheapest NAS lines. It's CMR, which is what you want anywhere near a RAID or ZFS rebuild.
! Watch out forIt's a 7,200 rpm drive and you'll hear it working.
No Backblaze failure rate for this one. They don't run enough of them, if any, for a figure worth quoting. WD's datasheet puts it at 29 dB idle and 36 dB seeking. Power draw is 5.9 W idle and 7 W working on WD's figures, or 52 kWh a year if it spends the whole year idling. A 4-bay box full of these gives 18 TB after one drive's worth of parity.
