It earns the extra once you're filling a big box or hammering the array with Plex and backups around the clock, as the 550 TB a year rating leaves plenty of headroom. WD backs it for five years, which is a long time in drive terms. It's CMR, which is what you want anywhere near a RAID or ZFS rebuild.
!Watch out for
At 7,200 rpm it's from the louder, warmer class. Fine in a cupboard, less fun on a desk.
No Backblaze failure rate for this one. They don't run enough of them, if any, for a figure worth quoting. On paper it makes 25 dB at idle and 32 dB seeking. WD lists 3.6 W at idle and 6 W working, which comes to 32 kWh a year for a drive that idles around the clock. Put four in RAID 5 and you'll have 72 TB to fill (Windows will call it 65.5 TB).
