Got a CCTV box to fill? That's its home. We list it because surveillance drives show up in any price-per-TB hunt. For a NAS array, though, you'd be running it off its rating. You also get five years' warranty, two more than the cheapest NAS lines.
!Watch out for
It isn't a NAS drive, and WD gives it no NAS bay rating. Building an array? Get a NAS or data-centre line, which comes with the rating. Being 7,200 rpm, it's in the noisier, warmer class of drive, and you'll want it somewhere you don't sit.
No Backblaze failure rate for this one. They don't run enough of them, if any, for a figure worth quoting. On paper it makes 34 dB at idle and 39 dB seeking. WD lists 8.2 W at idle and 9.1 W working, which comes to 72 kWh a year for a drive that idles around the clock.
