It makes most sense when you're chasing terabytes per pound and the NAS sits somewhere noise doesn't matter. Think garage, or a rack in the cupboard under the stairs. You also get five years' warranty, two more than the cheapest NAS lines. It's CMR, which is what you want anywhere near a RAID or ZFS rebuild.
!Watch out for
Being 7,200 rpm, it's in the noisier, warmer class of drive, and you'll want it somewhere you don't sit.
Backblaze doesn't run enough of these for a failure rate we'd publish. Toshiba's datasheet puts it at 20 dB idle and 32 dB seeking. Power draw is 4.35 W idle and 8.11 W working on Toshiba's figures, or 38 kWh a year if it spends the whole year idling. Four of them in SHR or RAID 5 give 66 TB usable, or 60.0 TB once Windows has done its binary maths on it.
