Is the SkyHawk AI 20 TB right for you?

Got a CCTV box to fill? That's its home. We list it because surveillance drives show up in any price-per-TB hunt. For a NAS array, though, you'd be running it off its rating. Seagate backs it for five years, which is a long time in drive terms.

Watch out for

Seagate doesn't rate it for NAS use at all, which rules it out for an array as far as we're concerned. Being 7,200 rpm, it's in the noisier, warmer class of drive, and you'll want it somewhere you don't sit.

No Backblaze failure rate for this one. They don't run enough of them, if any, for a figure worth quoting. On paper it makes 28 dB at idle and 32 dB seeking. Seagate lists 6.3 W at idle and 7.8 W working, which comes to 55 kWh a year for a drive that idles around the clock.
