Broadcom LSI SAS 9207-8i

LSI SAS2308 · 8 SATA/SAS drives · PCIe 3.0 x8

Model LSI00301unconfirmed

Is the Broadcom LSI SAS 9207-8i worth it?

This is the standard fix for a motherboard that's short of SATA ports, with 8 drives hanging off one card.

Watch out for

Cards like this run warm, and a fan pointed at the heatsink is cheap insurance.

It has 2 × SFF-8087, with a breakout cable giving four SATA drives per port. Flash it to IT mode for ZFS or Unraid. The part number LSI00301 comes from retailers; Broadcom's documents we checked don't list it. A PCIe 3.0 x8 slot is what it wants, though a x16 slot works too.
