Out of SATA ports? It runs 8 SATA or SAS drives straight off one PCIe slot, no expander needed.
Watch out for
These cards were built for server airflow, and in a quiet tower they'll want a fan pointed at them.
The single SFF-8654 x8 (SlimSAS) port takes a breakout cable to eight drives. ZFS and Unraid want raw disks, which means flashing it to IT (HBA) mode if it isn't already. Any x8 or x16 slot will do (it's PCIe 4.0 x8).
