Should you buy the Broadcom HBA 9400-8i?
This is the standard fix for a motherboard that's short of SATA ports, with 8 drives hanging off one card.
Watch out for
Cards like this run warm, and a fan pointed at the heatsink is cheap insurance.
Ports are 2 × SFF-8643, and each takes a breakout cable to four drives. Flash it to IT mode for ZFS or Unraid. A PCIe 3.1 x8 slot is what it wants, though a x16 slot works too.
