MG08 range

Should you buy the MG08 16 TB?

It's at home in a rack or a garage, where 7,200 rpm of spinning rust can whirr away all day without bothering anyone. You also get five years' warranty, two more than the cheapest NAS lines. Backblaze's numbers are on its side as well, with 1.23% lifetime AFR over 27,707 drive-years and even the top of the 95% interval under the 1.40% median. It's CMR, which is what you want anywhere near a RAID or ZFS rebuild.

Watch out for

Being 7,200 rpm, it's in the noisier, warmer class of drive, and you'll want it somewhere you don't sit.

Put four in RAID 5 and you'll have 48 TB to fill (Windows will call it 43.7 TB).
